Brockwell Wood is conveniently situated only 7 miles away from Newcastle upon Tyne in 26.5 acres of ancient woodland, offering visitors a tranquil, yet accessible, retreat from the hurly-burly of modern life.
This campsite is suitable for those who want a back to nature experience - we don't have shops, toilets and showers at the site
We are offering real, no nonsense, proper camping where camp fires are allowed and you can enjoy "camping sauvage" at its best!
We will provide you with a map to find your way and a spade to dig your own toilet. You can fill your water bottles at the farmhouse 10 minutes walk from the nearest part of the wood. You are welcome to light fires responsibly, clearing up after them.
There is plenty of dry wood - fallen and felled trees - we can lend you a saw to cut up dead wood for firewood. (You do not need to fell live trees.)
Dogs are fine too if kept under reasonable control.
We sell frozen, rare breeds, free range meat; lamb, pork and beef. Chops, sausages, mince plus all other cuts. Collect on sign in for your woodland barbeque. Supermarket prices but better quality.
The nearest pub is The Black Horse at Barlow one mile to the West - you can get food, real ale and the country pub experience there. The nearest shops are at Winlaton, one mile in the opposite direction, Newcastle City Centre is 7 miles away, the Roman Wall about 20 miles and the Cheviots 40 miles. To enable people to understand and enjoy the woodland, we can offer bespoke training and experience in conservation. This will give you a hands on woodland skills session with the opportunity to do some practical conservation work. Through participating in practical woodland management you can learn new skills to make a real improvement to the environment and wildlife habitats of woodland. Children as well as adults really enjoy this and so it makes a great family activity. Prices as for camping.
